Foreign ministry confirms death of Algerian-French national in Sanaa

The death of an Algerian-French national Farid Hamou on Wednesday in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, was confirmed Thursday by Foreign Ministry spokesman Abdelaziz Benali Cherif.
"The national died in the moment when he and his French Moroccan companion were arrested at a check point set up by Houthi militias," Benali Cherif said in a statement to APS.
"During the check, an altercation begun and the situation quickly deteriorated," he explained, adding that "Hamou was shot dead by militiamen, while his companion was severely injured."
The body of the victim is currently in El Moayed hospital in Al-Hassaba region, said the spokesman, noting that the services of the Embassy of Algeria in Sanaa are "following this case closely and are in contact with the spouse of the deceased and the Yemeni authorities."
The victim, born in Metz (France) where he has always lived, made several trips to Yemen to settle there a few months ago with his wife and daughter to pursue his theological studies at the Salafist center "El Fath" in Sanaa, said the same source.
