Egypt's Ambassador to Japan Ismail Khairat said that the Egyptian community in the quake-hit Kumamoto prefecture region in southwest Japan are "safe and sound".
In a press statement on Monday, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said that amb. Khairat ordered the formation of an operations room at the Egyptian embassy to follow up the conditions of the 18 Egyptians who are living in Kumamoto region.
Efforts exerted by the operations room that groups the embassy's staff, the consular department and Egypt's cultural office in Japan, led to ensuring the safety of all Egyptian citizens there, the statement added.
At least 32 persons were killed and hundreds injured in Saturday morning's 7.3 magnitude quake in Kumamoto province.
