First int'l conference on renewing religious discourse kicks off

The first international conference on the renewal of religious discourse which is organized by Al Azhar opened here on Wednesday.
The conference was inaugurated by Azhar Undersecretary Dr. Abbas Shoman representing Grand Imam of Al Azhar Sheikh Ahmed el Tayyeb.
In his speech at the opening session; Al Azhar University President Dr. Ahmed Hosni said that the conference is aimed at renewing the religious discourse and rectifying religious thought; given current attempts by some people to distort the image of Islam.
Renewing the religious discourse does not mean overriding the principles of religions, he said, adding that it means understanding the teachings of religion in a realistic and practical way.
