Dubai Municipality has recently signed an energy cooperation agreement with Dubai Land Department, to support Dubai Lamp initiative of the Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the Dubai Forum for Government Best Practices 2017 at Dubai World Trade Centre.

Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director-General of Dubai Municipality, and Sultan bin Butti bin Majran, Director-General of Dubai Land Department, signed the agreement, which highlights the interest of the two government organisations in the field of rationalisation of energy consumption in the Emirate of Dubai through participation in the efforts and awareness campaigns, and replacing traditional lamps with the new Dubai Lamps.

Lootah said that the agreement translates the government's plans to transform Dubai into one of the smartest cities in the world.

"It is clear that the strategic community participation impacts the course of sustainable development in the UAE, so we do not see the Dubai Lamp initiative as just another initiative, but it is an innovative, sustainable and equitable vision that is first of its kind in the region," he added.

Majran said that the agreement reflects the vision of integration between the various official government departments and establishments in the emirate in various fields. The Land Department will gradually increase use of Dubai Lamp in a number of its existing and new projects to save energy for longer periods and reduce costs dramatically and significantly, he added.

The Dubai Lamp initiative, which is the fruit of a unique research partnership between Philips Lighting and the municipality, resulting in the development of the world’s first commercially available, 200 lumen per Watt LED lamp. The lamp is available in the local market and Dubai has plans to replace 80 percent of its lamps with the new one in cooperation with Philips.
