Beirut - Arab Today

President of the Republic, Michel Aoun, said on Saturday that legal texts have been drafted with the aim of preserving the rights of citizens.

"Legal texts exist to protect the immunity of the State, its financial and economic system, and the rights of citizens," President Aoun said to his visitors at Baabda Palace this morning.

The President stressed the importance of the current cooperation between the executive and legislative authorities, in order to thwart any attempt to destabilize the State and its financial system.

"The State has faced contradiction in the legal texts regarding the budget dossier and tax law. It was necessary for the President of the Republic, from his national responsibility position, to adopt options that protect public financial regulations on one hand, and preserve the supreme national interest on the other hand," Aoun went on.

The President hoped that the "Parliament will approve in the next few days the bills that the government has deferred", wishing that "this would resolve the financial and economic problems in the country."

He added: "The procedures that were adopted last Thursday during the cabinet session were essential, after blocking all the solutions that were presented for the budget approval."

"The interest of the country requires facilities for budget approval," he said, disclosing that "some reactions in the street showed that some people wish to exploit the differences in stances towards the issuance of the budget and tax law to create disturbances that negatively affect the stable and secure conditions in the country," Aoun told his interlocutors
