The United Nations Special Envoy on Syria Staffan de Mistura announced Thursday that the UN had temporary suspended its humanitarian missions in Syria due to the violent battels in Aleppo.
The UN teams would not be able to reach those in need to due to the intense battels in Aleppo as well as elsewhere and thus the decision was made, said de Mistura in a press conference.
A humanitarian truce should be imposed for relief aid missions to resume operations, affirmed the UN envoy who hoped that his upcoming meetings with the US Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov would yield some fruitful results.
The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said that humanitarian convoys only reached 1.2 million Syrians, a small portion of those in need of urgent assistance.
