Tehran - Irna

The call to see US evidence over its latest accusations against Iran was not a change in position by Tehran that believed it was a US conspiracy against the country, Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said Tuesday. “Iran’s position has not changed. We still believe that it was a conspiracy by Washington against Tehran,” Mehmanparast told reporters at his weekly press conference. On Monday Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said that Iran wanted to see the American evidence on its accusation against Iran regarding the alleged involvement in a plot to assassinate Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to Washington. “Seeking evidence is by no mean equal to withdrawing from our previous position,” Mehmanparast stressed, reiterating that Tehran believed the whole story was a plot made by Washington against Iran to deviate America’s public opinion from the mounting problems facing Washington. Rejecting the possibility that seeking the evidence from the US was considered as Tehran's retreat from its previous position over the issue, Mehmanparast said, “We believe when there is a claim it must be supported by some evidence.”
