Saudi Arabia expressed regretted the failure of the meeting of the 2015 Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) to reach a final document, the Saudi news agency (WAS) reported Thursday.

In his speech on Wednesday before the first committee during the 71st session of the UN General Assembly, Saudi Deputy Permanent Representative of the Kingdom's delegation to the UN Adviser Saad bin Abdullah al Saad emphasized the legitimate right of the countries in the region in the peaceful use of nuclear energy in accordance with the standards, procedures and supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Saad said that many regions are experiencing success in the establishment of nuclear-weapon-free zones, thanks to the cooperation of the countries of these regions.

He said "we find the Middle East failing the international and regional efforts to make it a nuclear-free zone, due to Israel's refusal of any effort in this regard,", adding it is regrettable that Israel stands as a barrier to the realization of the desire of the peoples of the region to live in a free of nuclear terror zone.

Saudi Arabia stressed the importance of implementing the Convention on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, he said.

Saad underlined the importance of activating the UN program to prevent illicit trafficking in small and light arms.

He added the Kingdom emphasizes the importance of continued use of outer space for peaceful purposes only.
