Americans are growing pessimistic about the course of the United States amid the political turmoil in Washington, according to a Bloomberg National Poll. The poll shows that 68 percent of Americans believe the country is headed in the wrong direction. Only 25 percent of those surveyed said the US is on the right track -- the lowest mark since September 2011, press tv reported. The survey also indicates that President Barack Obama’s favorability rating is at 47 percent and for Republicans it’s 34 percent, the worst ever for both in the Bloomberg poll. 49 percent of Americans have an unfavorable view of Obama personally, a two year low. "People are so divided and unwilling to compromise," said poll respondent David Carpenter, a 40-year-old general contractor and political independent in Atlanta. "There’s no unity from the administration. He sticks to his ideals and points fingers. I don’t think that’s the right way to lead," Carpenter said referring to Obama. Obama’s support for military action in Syria also generated a backlash from those who supported his 2008 presidential candidacy because of his opposition to the Iraq War. Obama’s handling of the situation in Syria is overwhelmingly unpopular, with 53 percent of respondents disapproving and 31 percent approving. 51 percent of those surveyed also disapprove of Obama’s management of the US reputation in the world as opposed to 43 percent who approve. The latest New York Times/CBS News poll has also found that about half of the American people disapprove of Obama’s foreign policy when it comes to Iran and Syria.
