Sofia - Itar-Tass

The Bulgarian police have managed to drive protesters off the parliament building in downtown Sofia to let the people - ministers and lawmakers who had been blocked inside - to leave the building. The “siege” of the parliamentary building lasted for eight hours. The police separated the protesters into groups to push them off the square in front of the building. Some protesters offered resistance to policemen forcing them to use force. In response, the protesters began to thrown bottles and stones at the police. According to local media, ten people, including two policemen, were hurt in clashes. After the protesters were drive away from the square, bulldozers began to clear the adjoining streets off the barricades. The majority of lawmakers with the Bulgarian Socialist Party and the Movement For Rights and Freedoms have already left the building, accompanied by the police. Lawmakers with the party Citizens For Bulgaria’s European Development said they would be the last to leave the building.
