Over 50% Muscovites ready to vote for Sobyanin

Forty-six percent of Muscovites have expressed their readiness to vote at the election of the city’s mayor on September 8, and another 30% say they are likely to vote, according to results of a poll conducted by Russia’s oldest polling institution WCIOM. The poll results show that Sergei Sobyanin tops the electoral rating. He could gain 55% of the vote, should the election be next weekend. Following Sobyanin is Alexei Navalny /RPR-PARNAS/, where nine percent of the surveyed are ready to vote for him. Following them are Ivan Melnikov /CPRF/ - four percent, Sergei Mitrokhin /Yabloko/ - three percent, Mikhail Degtyarev /LDPR/ - two percent, and Nikolai Levichev /A Just Russia/ - one percent. The polling institution reports that 94% of Muscovites are aware that the election of the city’s mayor is due on September 8. The older the surveyed are, the better they know about the upcoming elections – 80% of those aged between 18 and 24, 98% of those aged above 45. Only six percent have never heard anything about the elections. WCIOM conducted the survey by telephone in Moscow on July 10 - August 1. The organization questioned 1,200 people, and the statistical margin doesn’t exceed 3.9%.
