Major oil pipeline in Yemen bombed

A major oil pipeline in Marib province, east of the capital Sana’a, was bombed today, a Yemeni government source said . The source said in a statement in this regard that tribal militants blew up the pipeline extending from oil fields in Marib to the Ras Isa oil export port on the Red Sea and set it on fire, pointing out that security agencies are currently pursuing the perpetrators. The source said that the competent authorities sent engineering teams to repair the pipeline that has stopped pumping crude oil as a result of the bombing. The Marib oil pipeline suffered a series of bombings since the beginning of 2011, which saw the outbreak of the peaceful youth revolution to demand the overthrow of the regime of former President Ali Abdullah Saleh. The attacks result in the halt to crude oil export, which cost Yemen losses of up to USD 15 million a day.
