Lawmaker calls for flexibility in OPCON transition timeline

It is still premature for South Korea to adhere to a specific target date for the transfer of wartime operational control (OPCON) of its troops from the United States, a visiting South Korean lawmaker said Monday. Rep. Ahn Hong-joon, chairman oaaf the National Assembly's Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee, called for flexibility in the timeline, which has again emerged as a key alliance issue.
