Chairman of the Board and Director General of Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) Sheikh Mubarak al-Duaij al-Ibrahim al-Sabah applauded the work of the office of the UN Information Service in Geneva in a meeting he had today with its director Corinne Momal-Vanian. The chairman expressed satisfaction with the UN office's cooperation on media affairs with KUNA's office in Geneva and thanked Vanian for making the work of journalists stationed in that city much easier, especially in recent times as the pace of international events has been racing past very quickly and news emanating from UN sources have ramped up in frequency. Sheikh Duaij assured Vanian that KUNA's office in Geneva was one of the agency's busiest ones, reflecting in that the enormous role the UN's office was assuming as its task would require it to track down often emergency events affecting the lives of many people around the world with human relief needs. He registered his appreciation for the professional work pursued by the UN office's personnel in addressing these momentous events. Vanian, on her part, noted the coverage KUNA's office here was doing of various activities of the UN office in Geneva, particularly in recent times of the UN office's preoccupation with the Syrian crisis; coverage, she said that went beyond just the political aspects to more deeply-felt humanitarian ones. While eyes of the media usually are riveted on the activities of the UN headquarters in New York, the task is left to the UN offices in Geneva to do all the legwork and paperwork on issues that are usually then transferred over to New York, said Vanian. Moreover the aspect of the humanitarian work of the UN is vividly illustrated by the existence of the office of the The United Nations Commission on Human Rights (UNCHR) in Geneva whose achievements leave great imprints on the lives of so many people around the world, she said.
