Japan, Ukraine to tie up on radioactivity spread

Japan and Ukraine plan to launch a project that will research the spread of radioactive substances from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant. Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida will visit Ukraine tomorrow, on Sunday, reported the NHK world . During the visit, Kishida will meet his Ukrainian counterpart Leonid Kozhara and other senior officials to discuss post-nuclear disaster cooperation. Ukraine is the site of the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster. Among the items for discussion is a plan to launch a mini satellite developed by the University of Tokyo, using a Ukrainian rocket. The satellite will be used to determine the spread of radioactivity from the Fukushima plant. The satellite will also collect information from monitoring equipment, and film the surface of the earth regularly to observe changes in vegetation around Fukushima. A similar research project is also planned above the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
