Leader of the National Alliance, Ibrahim al-Jafari, discussed on Sunday, Sep. 8, with Canadian Chargé d'Affaires, Stefani Dohaim, means to consolidate bilateral relations and develop idustrial, commercial and educational cooperation. A statement issued on Sunday, Sep. 8, by Jafari's Office said that the two discussed also Iraq's democratic process and the situation in the area, especially the Syrian crisis. Jafari touched on the necessity to consolidate relations between Iraq and Canada to beneifit for Canadian democratic experience and peaceful coexistence between various public components in a pluralist society. He pointed out the importance of Canadian firms entering into developing Iraq's infra structure, construction and industrialization, in addition to consolidate educational cooperation and improving educational curricula. Jafari stressed that American strike against Syria will increase tension in light of instability in the region's countries and will have big effects on domestic situation. He condemned the use of chemical weapons by any side, calling for balanced evaluation by the UN considering such use to be a crime against humanity. For her part, the Canadian diplomat announced the opening soon of a Canadian Embassy in Baghdad, pointing out her country's opening towards Iraq to contribute in consolidating democracy and economic development.
