Tehran - Fars

A member of the Iranian parliament announced on Wednesday that the country's legislators will mostly likely ask the government in coming weeks to review Iran's membership in the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty."The Islamic Consultative Assembly (parliament) is expected to exert serious pressure on the government in the next few weeks to study Iran's withdrawal from the NPT," Sirous Borna told FNA on Wednesday. The time has arrived for the Iranian authorities to launch a basic revision over Iran's continued cooperation with the treaty specially after the recent report by the Director of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in which he raised baseless claims against Iran's peaceful nuclear program. Borna dismissed Yukiya Amano's recent report on Iran as "political and biased", and added that the agency has shifted its course of action from an expert study of Iran's nuclear program to political work. The remarks by the Iranian MP came after Amano released a US-dictated report on Iran last Tuesday, in a move seen by many, even in the West, as part of Washington and Israel's efforts to find a new pretext for intensifying pressures on Tehran. The Iranian parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission is already due to study a review of Tehran's cooperation with the IAEA. Earlier, the commission chairman, Alaeddin Boroujerdi, told FNA that his commission would start discussions over the issue in the near future.
