Indonesian FM to discuss solution to Egypt crisis with UNSC president

Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Marty Natalegawa is scheduled to leave Tuesday for an official visit to the UN headquarters in New York, where he will meet with UN Security Council (UNSC) president on Thursday to discuss peace solution to the Egypt crisis. "The meeting (with UNSC president) was intended to discuss instructions by Indonesian president to find solution to the deteriorating crisis in Egypt," a statement released by the Foreign Affairs Ministry said. Indonesia supports international intervention to settle political commotion in Egypt through peaceful solution, the statement said. During his visit, Marty was also scheduled to meet UN Deputy Secretary-General Jan Kenneth Eliasson on Aug. 26 to discuss efforts that can be contributed by the United Nations to address current global problems, global development agenda post 2015 and latest development in Syria and Egypt. In the meeting with Kenneth, Marty would convey Indonesia's preparation to host global "Civilization Alliance," an international grand slated for 2014. After the visit to UN headquarters, the Indonesian foreign minister also will visit Canada and China. In Canada, Marty was scheduled to attend a bilateral meeting of joint commission aimed at enhancing bilateral ties with Canada in trade, investment, connectivity, democracy and human rights and also discussing trans-boundary crime and trafficking issue. Besides, the minister would also discuss preparation of the planned visit by Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper to Indonesia in December this year. Meanwhile in China, Marty was scheduled to attend the particular meeting of ASEAN foreign affairs ministers with Chinese foreign minister in Beijing from Aug. 28 to 30.
