Most of food security problems facing Egypt are caused by high temperature and global warming that have a negative effect on crops at large, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) said on Sunday.
According to the UN agency representative in Egypt Hussein Gadain, FAO is preparing a five-year plan comprising a set of measures that aim at supporting water insensitive crops like legumes.
FAO - in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture - is taking measures to utilize water insensitive crops that are heat-tolerant as well, Gadain told MENA on the fringe of World Food Day celebration.
He added that the Egyptian Ministry of Agricultural is working on producing kinds of rice, one of the thirsty crops, that do not consume large quantities of water.
