Egypt's Foreign Affairs Council voices solidarity with Saudi Arabia against JASTA

The Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs (ECFA) on Tuesday asserted support for Saudi Arabia in rejecting the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act (JASTA) recently passed by the US Congress.

In a statement, the council said it is closely following up the legal and political repercussions of the new law. 

The council recommended the law should be put up for discussion sessions of the UN General Assembly's Economic and Financial Committee (Second Committee) and Legal Committee (Sixth Committee). 

It added that JASTA is a breach to the UN charter and the international law for violating the independent state's sovereignty. 

Regrettably, the law triggers controversy by holding states responsible for actions carried out by its nationals living outside its borders in case they received intelligence from their homeland, the council said.

Also, it sparks disagreements on the applicability of the international laws on people with multiple nationalities, the statement added.
