Dominican Republic's incumbent president, Danilo Medina, enjoys a strong lead in the presidential race and is poised to win an easy re-election, early results of Sunday's election showed.
The preliminary outcome from 15 percent of polling stations gave Medina 61 percent of the vote, while his closest rival, Luis Abinader, gained 35 percent.
Should the margin be sustained, it would allow Medina to avoid a second round.
The final results are expected on Monday.
