Country pushed into anarchy: Nawaz

Former prime minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Monday said that the country had been pushed into anarchy since he was disqualified in the Panama Papers case.
He said he had not embezzled a single penny from the national exchequer as evident from the court verdict
that he was disqualified on the basis of Iqama and not for corrupt practices. The decision of his disqualification was not acceptable to the people, he added.
He was addressing Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) workers during his visit to Chakwal to offer his
condolences to the bereaved family of Chaudhary Muhammad Liaquat, a Punjab Assembly member, who had passed away last month.
He said when the PML-N came into power the menace of terrorism was at its peak. His government broke backbone of the terroristsm by facing the terrorists from eye ball to eye ball and taking bold steps.
He said, he was being blamed for rising inflation, rupee depreciation, spike in violence, and unemployment.
When he was in the office he had overcome all those issues, which had now resurfaced after his disqualification.
What his government had done in four years, he said, the previous regimes could not do in 20 years.
Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi should not be blamed if pace of development work slowed down following his disqualification, he added.
Nawaz Sharif said electricity and roads played a pivotal role in the development of any country, yet there was great power shortage when the PML-N government came into power in 2013. The people should not forget those who had pushed the nation into darkness, he added.
The government had expedited development work and initiated China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project under which US$ 56 billion investment was being brought to the country, Nawaz Sharif said.
Nawaz Sharif said in July 28 decision, he was disqualified for not taking salary from his son. The people knew that he was not disqualified in the Panama Papers case rather on having an Iqama.
No corruption was proved against him despite several months investigation, and today he could proudly say that he was not disqualified on corruption charges, he added.
Nawaz Sharif said he and his family members were sent in exile for seven years and were not even allowed to attend his father’s funeral.
He said roads and motorways were being constructed to bring prosperity to different regions of the country.
He said the PML-N government constructed Rawalpindi to Lahore Motorway. While Lahore to Multan Motorway was near completion and soon Chakwal would become one of the developed cities and districts of the country.
Nawaz Sharif urged the people of Chakwal to give their verdict in the next general election by voting for the
PML-N.
He and participants of the meeting also offered Fateha for the departed soul and condoled the demise of Chaudhry Liaquat.
