Brussels - Arab Today

The UAE is taking part in a preparatory meeting for the eighth Clean Energy Ministerial, CEM8, and the second Mission Innovation Ministerial, MI-2, hosted by the European Union in the Belgian capital of Brussels.

The meeting, which will conclude on 3rd March, is an international forum to promote policies and share best practices to accelerate the global transition to clean energy. CEM8 initiatives seek to help reduce emissions, improve energy security, and provide energy access while sustaining economic growth.

Dr. Mattar Al Neyadi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Energy and head of the UAE delegation, presented the UAE's efforts in energy efficiency and clean energy.

The UAE energy strategy seeks to introduce clean energy and reduce energy consumption, while engaging in initiatives of CEM8, including the Global Lighting Challenge, the Power System Challenge and the Energy Management Campaign.

Energy ministers, representatives of member countries and international clean energy experts will hammer out an agenda for CEM8, which China will host in Beijing from 6th to 8th June.

The annual meeting will include energy ministers and high-level delegates from the 24 member countries and the European Union. It provides an opportunity to leverage high-level political will as well as private sector leadership to drive ambitious, real-world clean energy policies and actions.

CEM8 will be co-located with MI-2. While the CEM8 will focus on scaling deployment of clean energy technologies and solutions of today, MI-2 will push to scale research and development for new technologies of the future.

Together, CEM and MI create a robust platform for the world’s leading nations to accelerate clean energy innovation and facilitate its uptake by the global market
