Britain alarmed at Egypt's deteriorating security

Britain declared on Wednesday deep concern at security deterioration in Egypt after authorities carried out an operation to disperse protesting supporters of the deposed president Mohamed Morsi. Foreign Secretary William Hague said in a statement the government regretted fall of the dead during the security operations, witnessed in Cairo and a number of governorates, earlier today. He reiterated Britain's condemnation of violence and "excessive force," practiced by the security forces against the demonstrators, and expressed frustration at failure of efforts to resolve the crisis peacefully. London has spearheaded international diplomatic efforts to persuade the political parties in Egypt to end the demonstrations and sit-ins peacefully, Hague added. He called on the Egyptian forces to "work together to minimize prospects of re-eruption of the violence in the future," stressing this approach must be taken ahead of holding conciliation dialogue.
