The violent breakout in Abu Ghraib and Taci prisons in Iraq has been claimed by the terrorist group the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS), an al-Qaeda affiliate merging Iraqi and Syrian militants. The group issued a statement on Tuesday, saying its members "carried out 12 simultaneous suicide attacks at the main gates and premises of the prisons after capturing nearby control points." "Hundreds of prisoners were freed," the statement claimed. Security sources had earlier reported that 815 prisoners escaped, most of them linked with al-Qaeda. Iraqi Ministry of Justice said 27 people died and 39 were injured in Monday's attacks.
