About 20 Taliban militants were detained after Afghan army carried out a night raid operation in the country's northern province of Kunduz overnight, an army spokesman said on Thursday.
"The Special Operation Forces raided a Taliban hideout in Omarkhel area of Ali Abad district Wednesday night, capturing 20 suspected Taliban and recovered weapons and ammunition following the operation," Nasratullah Jamshidi, spokesman of army Corps 209 Shaheen based in the region, told Xinhua.
The raid was conducted after a confirmed tip off indicated the presence of insurgents in the targeted compound and no weapon was fired during the arrest, he noted.
The Afghan security forces have beefed up security operations against militants since early April after Taliban militants started their so-called annual spring offensive and step up attacks across the country.
The Taliban has yet to make comments.
