The 7 Division of the Nigerian Army in Maiduguri, northeast Nigeria, said on Friday that the troops had killed 74 suspected Boko Haram militants after a raid of camps in Galangi and Lawanti villages on the outskirts of Maiduguri on Thursday. Mohammed Dole, a lieutenant colonel and the new spokesman of the division, announced the figure in a statement in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital. "In continuation of the ongoing offensive operations against terrorists, the troops of 7 Division destroyed Boko Haram camps in Galangi and Lawanti villages within Mainok general area of Borno on Thursday." "The operations which involved ground and aerial assault supported by the Nigerian Air Force led to the destruction of the identified terrorists camps killing 74 suspected militants, while others fled with serious injuries." he said. "Likewise two Isuzu Tiger pick up vehicles and five Hilux vans belonging to the militants were destroyed," he said, adding, however, that two soldiers were wounded during the operations.
