Tunis - Azhar Jarboui
A Tunisian parliamentarian has resigned from the National Constituent Assembly (NCA) in protest against the new constitution. Ahmed el-Khososi, an MP from the Movement of Socialist Democrats (MDS), said Tunisia's new constitution didn't represent all Tunisians. He urged those who had elected him to the NCA to understand his decision. Khososi is the second parliamentarian to quit the NCA, after Ennahda Party representative Abu Yarub Al-Marzouqi resigned in protest against the policies of the ruling party. Some political observers claimed that the ruling Ennahda movement was anxious about the recent developments, fearing that the resignations could undermine the government's legitimacy. They blamed the Tunisian authorities for delaying the Tunisian constitution and subsequently the upcoming elections. Others refused to rule out the possibility of the Islamist government being overthrown, pointing to the popularity of the Tunisian Tamarod (Rebel) movement which claims to have obtained more than a million signatures to dissolve the NCA and form a national salvation government to pave the way for parliamentary elections.
