Tunisia's FM meets Egyptian ambassador

Tunisia's Foreign Minister Othmane Jarandi held talks with Egypt's ambassador in Tunis Aymen Mochrifa to outline the importance of democratic legitimacy in Egypt. In a statement, Tunisia's foreign ministry said its approach is based on "the fundamentals of the democratic process and in the context of electoral legitimacy and consensus." The ministry added that the transition to democracy requires dialogue and consensus, within the legitimacy and rejection of interference of the military in politics. Earlier this week, in a meeting with the Tunisian ambassador to Cairo, the Egyptian foreign ministry objected to the Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki describing the ouster of President Mohammed Morsi as a 'military coup.' "It is interference in internal Egyptian issues and contradicts the positive relations between nations of both countries," the foreign ministry said. In return, Tunisia told the Egyptian ambassador to Tunis that its position is "sovereign and is based on the bases of democracy."
