Cairo - Akram Ali

Demonstrators declared the opening of a "liberation compound" on Wednesday and Thursday, demanding that the army protect it, in order to prevent the infiltration of any thugs. The demonstrators said that they do not want to disrupt the work of other Egyptians, so they have decided to open the compound once again after it was closed on Sunday. The sit-in demonstrations remain open for the fifth consecutive day. The protestors are holding them until their demands are met, stressing that they do not seek any personal goals, and that their motto is freedom and social justice. The protestors staged a rally on Tuesday for the Council of Ministers in Kasr Al-Aini Street, near Tahrir square, to emphasize their demands before Prime Minister, Essam Sharaf's office. The Egyptian Minister of the Interior, al-Issawi, is this morning, Wednesday 13th, running a large movement to make changes to the police force, stressing that radical changes will be made to the Minstry of the Interior as part of a complete overhaul. Issawi said in a press statement this morning that the preparations for the movement, which is the largest in the history of the police, are half-complete. He said that on Wednesday evening the implementation of the Egyptian people's demands would be announced, which will begin with the clearing out of the entire Ministry of the Interior after the Revolution of 25th January. Al-Issawi confirmed that he will deal with the officers accused of killing demonstrators in accordance with the law, and will put forward young officers for leadership positions to give them another chance.
