Tehran - Arab Today

Syrian army troops discovered a tunnel in Reef (countryside of) Damascus used by armed rebel groups for smuggling weapons and militants. According to FNA dispatches from Syria, the tunnel which connects Bastatin Barzeh and al-Qaboun was used by militant groups to transfer weapons and rebels. Also in Hajirah region in Reef Damascus, the units of the Syrian army pushed back the militants who intended to move from Sabineh district to al-Qadam district in preparation for an attack in the area, and killed 40 terrorists. In a relevant development on Saturday, the Syrian army attacked the armed rebels' hideout and killed at least 40 of them on Aleppo-Idlib road. The rebels used the region as a training camp which was destroyed by the Syrian army units. Also, the units of Abu Zohour airport's guards in Reef Idlib, Northwestern Syria, attacked and killed a number of armed rebels who tried to invade the airport. Also on Friday, Syrian Armed Forces carried out military operations against rebels' dens and gatherings in Aleppo and its countryside, killing and injuring scores of them. A military source told the Syrian Arab News Agency that the army units killed and injured large numbers of insurgents in al-Zayton Farms in al-Sheikh Said, destroying their vehicles and equipment. The source added that other army forces targeted terrorists' convoys on Atareb-Orum Einjara road, killing and injuring so many antigovernment fighters. The source pointed out that the army units destroyed rocket launch-pads and mortars in Kweires, Rasm al-Aboud, Arbed and Kaskes villages, killing and injuring many fighters in the battle fields there. In Aleppo city, the army units foiled terrorists' attempt to sneak into the safe areas of Salah-Eddin neighborhood, killing 4 militants and injuring others. Meanwhile, other army units carried out operations against rebels' dens and gatherings in several areas, killing 7 fighters in Bani Zaid neighborhood, and some others in al-Ansari, al-Kalaseh and al-Sakhor neighborhoods. The conflict in Syria started in March 2011, when sporadic pro-reform protests turned into a massive insurgency following the intervention of western and regional states. The unrest, which took in terrorist groups from across Europe, the Middle-East and North Africa, has transpired as one of the bloodiest conflicts in recent history. As the foreign-backed insurgency in Syria continues without an end in sight, the US government has boosted its political and military support to Takfiri extremists. Washington has remained indifferent to warnings by Russia and other world powers about the consequences of arming militant groups. Source: FNA
