Amman - Osama Arrantissi
Jordanian sources have said that Syrian actress Fadwa Sleiman took refuge in Jordan on Wednesday evening while fleeing Syrian president Bashar al-Assad's regime. The actress crossed the border illegally. Sleiman was reportedly accompanied with her husband and spent the night in a house for Syrian refugees in the city of Ramtha (80 kilometres north of the capital). A number of Syrian activists helped her during her stay and transferred her to Amman. The actress, who belongs to Assad's Alawite sect, was prominent in the revolution as she led a number of demonstrations against Assad's regime. She mostly worked in the neighbourhoods of Khalidiya, al-Bayada and Deir Balaba in Homs. The state media waged several attacks against her.
