Sudan President holds long meeting on Darfur

Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir chaired a lengthy meeting with the ruling party on Wednesday, which was extended until the early hours of Thursday morning. The meeting focused on reviewing the situation in South Darfur, following the incidents in Nyala city. Earlier last week, police repulsed riots staged by a group of students who hurled stones at masses who came out to receive the new governor of Nyala Hamid Ismai, injuring a number of citizens. In response, police used tear gas to disperse the rioters, which culminated in cancelling the ceremony planned for the reception of the new governor. The police detained some of the rioters who admitted that they were requested by some parties to stage demonstrations against the new governor and to raise banners demanding the return of former governor Abdul Hamid Musa Kasha.
