South Sudan's main military force, the Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA), has received orders from President Salva Kiir to withdraw from the Safe Demilitiarised Border Zone (SDBZ) bordering neighbouring Sudan. SPLA spokesman Philip Aguer announced the South Sudan force had ordered troops deployed in the region to stand down. The withdrawal is expected to be completed by March 28. "The SPLA is waiting for a similar move by the Sudanese army,” Aguer said in a press statement on Monday. Conditions on the border and currently said to be “calm and stable.”
