Shafiq: Mubarak should be hanged if guilty

Egyptian presidential candidate Ahmed Shafiq has said the life sentence given to former president Hosni Mubarak for his involvement in the deaths of protesters at the height of the Egyptian revolution was a "politically-based decision", saying: "If it was proved that Mubarak ordered the killing of protesters, a death penalty should have been applied." Shafiq added that the first one he would sue if he succeeded in the presidential elections was MP Essam Sultan for insulting him. Shafiq said in an interview on the Rotana Masreya television channel that the parliament doesn't have enough experience to hold former regime officials on trial, saying revolutionary courts were "a mess". Shafiq also hinted at letting the Muslim Brotherhood join the new government he would form if he wins, saying: "My disputes with the Muslim Brotherhood will be over by the end of the presidential elections."
