Tehran - Irna
Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said Tuesday that Tunisians' 90% turnout in the country's parliamentary elections has indicated the popular nature of their revolution. Addressing Majlis' Tuesday open session, Larijani congratulated Islamists' victory in Sunday's parliamentary elections stressing the victory proved that the Tunisian people were moving towards reviving Islamic rights in the African country. Larijani said that Tunisia was the frontrunner of protesting against oppression. Tunisia's anti-oppression uprising was followed by similar moves in Egypt, Libya, Yemen and Bahrain, said the speaker. As for the revolution in Libya, Larijani said that the Libyan nation succeeded to put an end to the long-term dictatorship of (Muammar) Gaddafi. The speaker stressed that Gaddafi's arrest and his death 'under such embarrassing circumstances would be a lesson for others.' Iran’s Majlis would assure both Tunisian and Libyan nations … of its support for their awakening movements despite 'political fireworks set off by the US and the West,” stressed the parliamentarian. Elsswhere in his address, Larijani expressed condolences to the people and government of Turkey over the fatal earthquake in that country. He further said that Iran would take due measures to help the quake-stricken people.
