Jordanian activist’s health deteriorates

Jordanian Lawyer Leen Al-Khayat revealed that Uday Abu Issa, the young man who torched King Abdullah II’s picture, has been transferred to Al Bashir governmental hospital as his health deteriorated after being on hunger strike for nine days.
Al-Khayat said that the administration of Jweida hospital moved Abu Issa to Al-Bashir in order to carry out medical examinations, pointing out that the young man said he will continue the strike.
The state security court sentenced Uday Abu Issa to two years of imprisonment for undermining the King's dignity.
Sources said Abu Issa, 19, confessedto aving torched the King's picture after tearing it off a municipal wall in Madaba, a city south of Amman.
Issa burned the picture to protest against the death of a municipal worker who set himself alight after his contract was terminated.
Abu Issa has apologised to the King for his "reckless" action in a letter delivered by his lawyers.
