Baghdad - Adnan Al Rubaie
The spokesman of the Popular Movement of protesters, currently demonstrating in six Iraqi provinces has outlined 4 options to resolve the crisis. Locals in Anbar, Salah-il-Din, Kirkuk, Baghdad, Diyala and Mosul are keen to establish a region based on Sunni geography, but scholars are divided on the issue. Iraqi political parties say the idea of a Sunni region is supported by foreign countries. Spokesman Mohamed Taha al-Hamdoun said: "We have four options, the first is to replace the head of the Government, Nouri al-Maliki, secondly replace the division, thirdly formation of a region, and lastly confrontation." "Forming a region is the popular option, as it is the way to get rid of the injustice from central government." The provinces of Anbar and Salah il-Din, Diyala and Kirkuk have witnessed demonstrations and sit-ins against the federal government and Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki. The protesters want the law of accountability and justice to be annulled, and seek the release of political prisoners.
