Kabul - Agencies
An Afghan national army soldier was killed by coalition forces as he shot at coalition troops in eastern Afghanistan, NATO officials said Thursday. The incident was one of the growing number of "green on blue" attacks in which Afghan soldiers or police, some insurgent infiltrators and others settling personal vendettas, have turned on their international colleagues, the Afghan newspaper Khaama Press reported Thursday. The confrontation occurred outside a coordination center for Afghan and international forces in Laghman Province, a NATO spokesman said. Heavy clashes were also reported in northern Kunruz province between militants and Afghan security forces, local authorities reported. An Afghan police officer and a militant were injured in the incident, Dast-e-Archi district chief Sheik Sadruddin said. In southern Afghanistan an Australian soldier was shot and injured during a gun fight with insurgents, the newspaper said.
