The Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi sent a message to the Egyptian people on the anniversary of the 23rd July Revolution, criticizing the revolution that overthrew the rule of President Hosni Mubarek in February. Gaddafi said in a speech broadcast on Libyan television on the 23rd of July: “The Egyptians hastened to overthrow him (Hosni Mubarek) without a clear alternative.” He added that Mubarek should be honoured and that it would have been better if he had remained the President of Egypt. Gaddafi questioned: “What have these two revolutions accomplished in Tunisia and Egypt? Is this the replacement of the last regime?” Adding: “After having looted and destroyed the country they want a new president. Tell me why you joined the revolution? Do you confirm Amr Moussa and the Egyptian President…you confirmed Nawal Sadawi better.” Gaddafi praised the previous Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser in his speech, describing him as “a strong personality, with clear vision, who the people loved.” He also accused the Libyan leader of the Arab League, and its Secretary General, Amr Moussa, of working for the State of Qatar. He continued: “If Amr Moussa wins the Egyptian Presidential elections then it means that he is an officer of the State of Qatar.” Gaddafi also accused the Governor of Qatar saying that Moses told him that he would support and fund his election campaign in return for freezing the Libyan membership and expelling it from the Arab League, in order to let NATO destroy them.”
