Cairo - Akram Ali
A number of Egyptian politicians have hailed the resignation of Egyptian Attorney General Talaat Abdullah, celebrating the move as an important step towards judicial independence. Hafez Abu Saada, head of the Egyptian Organisation for Human Rights, said: "We support the prosecutors’ stance as they seek to implement the law.” Sameh Ashour, chairman of the Bar, hailed the news on his Twitter account. Former member of parliament Muhammad Abu Hamid also saluted the prosecutors. Those who had defended their independence were no less honourable than those who battled in the October War, he said. Coptic Christian activist Michael Mounir suggested the Supreme Judicial Council should choose the new Attorney General, confining the role of the President Mohammed Morsi to ratifying their selection.
