Cairo - Akram Ali

The Arab American Institute will host Egyptian activists Ahmed Maher and Waleed Rashed, co-founders of Egypt’s April 6 Youth Movement, on Capitol Hill next Tuesday, October 18, for a congressional staff briefing entitled A View from the Ground: Egypt’s Aspirations and U.S. Interests. Maher and Rashed will discuss the role of the youth movement in serving as the vehicle by which the Egyptian revolution was spawned, and will shed light on the current challenges pro-democracy efforts face in post-Mubarak Egypt. AAI President, James Zogby, and Brian Katulis, Senior Fellow at Center for American Progress, will Join Maher and Rashed at the briefing. Zogby will discuss Arab opinion of the U.S. and the current status of U.S.-Arab relations. Katulis will provide an analysis of how current events transpiring in Egypt will shape U.S. policy toward the region going forward.
