Cairo – Al Deeb Abu Ali

Egyptian lawyer Samir Sabri on Sunday filed a lawsuit against Islamic scholar Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi, for insulting the country’s leadership. During an interview that was aired on satellite news channel Aljazeera, Qaradawi accused Defence Minister Abdel Fattah el-Sisi of violating the oath he took in front of ousted president Mohammed Morsi, adding that “Sisi thinks the people gave him the right to murder and behead Egyptian citizens by giving him a mandate.” Qaradawi went on to say that Sisi only considered his own supporters as being true Egyptians “whilst others are not even human.” In the interview Qaradawi called interim President Adli Mansour "a clown", and said the government under the rule of Prime Minister Hazem el-Beblawi is "a government of oppressors." According to Sabri, Qaradawi has also accused all of the June 30 protesters of being infidels. Sabri said, Qaradawi was inciting strife when he described Sufis in Egypt as “the doorways of Shiites,” since four Shiites were killed in Egypt following his comments. Sabri called for a travel ban against the sheik and has referred his case to the criminal court.
