Aditi Bhaduri has won the prestigious Sarojini Naidu Prize for the Best English Language Reporting on Women and Panchayati Raj in India. The prize is awarded annually by The Hunger Project. The prize was awarded for her article, “Ordinary Women, Extraordinary Courage", which was published in the Sentinal and on governancenow.com. The article told the story of women running in a local government election in Kashmir despite considerable risks to their safety. The women are taking advantage of a constitutional amendment that reserves 33 percent of seats for women. He article highlighted the underdevelopment and unemployment prevalent in the region, and the role these women want to play in improving the situation. Bhaduri is a Kolkata-based journalist and researcher who writes for The Telegraph, Women's Feature Service, The Deccan Herald, The Hindu and several other publications within India. Internationally, she has reported for Gulf News (UAE), Women's eNews (USA), Newsline (Pakistan), Haaretz (Israel) and Arab News (Saudi Arabia). Bhaduri has a background in international relations and specialises in the Middle East, often writing about conflict, gender and forced migration in the region.
