Kabul - Agencies
Two Taliban attacks in Kandahar Tuesday resulted in the deaths of 14 people, including police officers, the attackers and civilians, Afghan officials said. Afghan and coalition leaders said Taliban fighters, including suicide bombers, assaulted a NATO camp on the outskirts of Kandahar city in southern Afghanistan, The Washington Post reported. Afghan and coalition military leaders said coalition forces killed the seven attackers during a gunfight that lasted about 15 minutes, The Washington Post reported. No deaths among NATO soldiers were immediately reported, but an Afghan official said some people working at the camp were wounded in the attack. The assault also caused some damage to the camp facilities, the official said. Also in Kandahar Tuesday, Taliban fighters dressed as police officers fired on a NATO-Afghan police facility. In an exchange of gunfire, four attackers and three police officers were killed, Ahmad Javid Faisal, a spokesman for Kandahar province's governor, said. Police thwarted a Taliban attack on another police post, resulting in the deaths of two assailants, Faisal told the Post by telephone. In Helmand province, local officials said eight civilians were killed and five civilians were wounded in a roadside bomb explosion Monday, Khaama Press reported. No one has claimed responsibility for the incident.
