Cairo - Akram Ali
Egypt’s April 6th Youth Movement has postponed its "end the emergency law” demonstration until the next Friday (September 30th) as a result the increased presence of the armed forces and police in Tahrir Square. The protest next week will express the movement’s opposition to the extension of emergency law without a referendum. It will also demand a deadline for the transfer of power, repeal of the law criminalising demonstrations and the retrial of civilians convicted in military courts. Protesters are also requesting clarification of the role of national security in universities and the dismissal of unelected university leaders. The Cairo Governorate announced on Friday morning that it would impose extra security on the downtown cafes. The government said that it fine anyone in breach of the security law 10,000 Egyptian pounds (US$1,500).
