Tunis - Nabil Zaghdod

Al Baghdadi Almahmoudi ‘s defense committee has confirmed that Albaghdadi has become a target  to the Libyan and western intelligence due to the large amount of information that he has regarding Gaddafi’s international relations , defense committee  insists not to hand him over. The defense committee confirmed in a press conference held on Monday in Tunis that “the Libyan Transitional Council is insisting in handing him over, despite the fact that he is just a civilian , and a doctor who entered Tunisia in a legal way, while Alkhowailedi Alhamedi , a militant , was released and entered the country in an illegal way to avoid risking his life , and he is based in Saudi Arabia at the moment. Almahmodi, who was the last Prime Minister in the former Libyan regime, has called on all the human rights organizations and his friends to help rescuing his life as it became in a big risk. The committee which includes more than 50 lawyers confirmed the presence of a confidential commitment between Tunisia and Libya to hand over Almahmoudi, in any case. Mabrook Kosheed, head of the defense committee, said: “we believe that democracy makes us obliged to announce the truth, specially that Albaghdadi Almahmoudi’s issue has become a complex in the Tunisian politics.” On the other hand, the defense committee said that: “we have called again to release Almahmoudi, and we hope our request will be considered as soon as possible.” Korshid emphasized that his “defendant, Almahmoudi wanted to save Tunisia the embarrassment and leave the country to go to Algeria, but Tunisia refused and dragged itself in this hassle.” Al-Mahmoudi was arrested September 27th in Tamaghza while attempting to cross into Algeria. He was convicted of illegal entry and sentenced to six months in prison. His attorneys argued that as a government official travelling in wartime, he had a right under the Geneva Convention to enter Tunisia. In Libya, the former premier was accused of murder and corruption. Al-Mahmoudi denied his involvement in the oppression of Moamer Kadhafi's era and expressed his willingness to co-operate with Libya's transitional government.
