Algiers - Sofiane Siyoucef

Algerian preacher Abu Bakr Jabir al-Jazairi, a scholar and teacher at the mosque of Prophet Mohammed in Medina, Saudi Arabia, appealed on Thursday for Algerians to take part in the parliamentary elections to be held in his country next Thursday in order to “make a bright future” for the country, and" thwart the work of those who want to harm Algeria." The scholar, who is 91 years old, urged Algerians in a broadcast message to maintain the dignity and pride of their homeland.  “Your fathers and grandfathers paid a heavy price for the sake of dignity and pride for which they shed their blood, emphasising that they must cast their vote in the elections which will take place on May 10, 2012. He also asked that Algerians be vigilant against those who seek to create sedition amongst them, and to gather around their president, "the man of the national reconciliation." He said he was confident that Algerians would support their country and participate in this important event. Sheikh al-Jazairi also called on his compatriots to "cling to the book of God and to the teachings of the Prophet"and to cooperate as one in a brotherly manner.
