Amman - Osama Arrantissi
Jordanian Prime Minister Awn al-Khasawneh started his discussions with the political parties to agree on a new electoral law in preparation for parliamentary elections later this year, according to an official spokesman. Al-Khasawneh met on Monday evening the secretaries general of the moderate parties and he will meet the heads of the trade unions on Tuesday and the leaders of the Islamic Action Front Party, the political arm of the Muslim Brotherhood, on Wednesday and the leaders of the leftist Party on Thursday. The State Minister for Media Affairs and Communications, and the government spokesman Rakan Al-Majali said “those meetings, discussions and communications are  to crystallise the draft election law which will be presented to the House of Representatives at the end of March.” Al-Khasawneh confirmed that “the Government believes that any electoral system based on the idea of one vote is totally unacceptable” He added "The government is seeking to find electoral law that achieves the highest amount of justice adding that “next elections will be "the starting point for a Parliamentary Government.” He explained that “The Government has looked at many of the ideas proposed for the electoral system but no decision has yet been taken” and thatt “all ideas are on the discussion table” Al-Khasawneh stressed that the government has no intention of delaying the elections and that what concerns it is to define the law in an appropriate way.
