2 Libyans killed in tribal clashes

Tribal clashes erupted again in Libya's southern city, Kufra, between local militants belonging to the Toubou tribes and the so-called "Libya's Shield Brigade" associated with the ruling National Transitional Council. Local journalist Abdelhamid al-Abirish told Arabstoday that the clashes started up on Tuesday, but got worse on Wednesday, resulting in two fighters of Libya's Shield being killed. So far there has been no confirmation of casualties on the Toubou side. Al-Abirish added that the mutual mortar shelling between the two sides caused some destruction to residential buildings, while dozens of women and children were reported injured.The journalist also claimed that General Mohammed al-Ereibi, Commander of Libya's Shield, was directly targeted by a mortar shell while he was in his car but that he survived the incident, as the mortar didn't explode.  An aid convoy visiting the city was also targeted near a Toubou neighbourhood, as members of the convoy were tending to the needs of its residents. There have been unconfirmed reports that the Toubou leader Issa Abdulmajid himself was stabbed and is being treated in his house. A group of elders visited Kufra last Sunday, trying to help reach a settlement between the fighters of Libya's Shield Brigades and the Toubou tribes.
